Additional Information About The RoleENT/plastic surgery and
observation unit is consistently ranked among the best in the
nation by U.S.News & World Report. This unit allows nurses the
opportunity to specialize in tracheostomy/flap care and work with
leech therapy. Nurses are heavily involved in patient teaching and
use theirassessment skills to care for post-surgical patients who
have had reconstructive surgery. Staff on this division cared for
the first patient in the country to have restored speech through
the use of an artificial larynx.

Nurses Credentialing Center.The Surgical Services Department
provides pre-op and post-op inpatient care to those patients
undergoing surgical procedures in the areas of ENT and Plastic
surgery. - Inpatient care in this department focuses on pre-op
needs, post-op care and treatment after phase I recovery through
discharge from an inpatient nursing division. The department's
surgical observation unit provides more intensive care and
treatment to those post-op or post-traumatic patients whose
condition requires treatment at this level.Preferred
QualificationsRole PurposeProvides direct patient care activities
including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and
evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing
care.Responsibilities
- Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing
environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage
their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs
and medication administration.
- Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality
and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional
development.
- Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care
with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the
interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in
accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing
care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of
care across the continuum of care.
- Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical,
psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care,
including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and
population-specific needs.
